On behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Paul Wright, professor of health sciences completed the 2019 Ironman World Championship on Oct. 12 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The race, which consisted of a 2 ½-mile open-water swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run, was complicated by the fact Wright broke his arm eight weeks before the race.

The School of Humanities and the MFA in Writing program co-hosted a Flash Forms Festival on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in McCluer Hall’s Piers Stewart Lounge as a part of Lindenwood University’s Dark Carnival.

MLB Network host and Lindenwood University alumnus Greg Amsinger was the subject of a recent article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Amsinger was in town for the Cardinals playoff games with the Washington Nationals and also took part Friday in a panel of Lindenwood communications alumni who have had notable careers in broadcasting.

Lindenwood University has launched a new Certificate in Culturally Responsive Assessment for faculty and staff. The certificate, which launched Oct. 1, is a new professional development opportunity for Lindenwood faculty and staff and incorporates existing development opportunities, such as the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Book Club, Safe Zone Training, and Implicit Bias Training, combined with a new menu of focused workshops about culturally responsive assessment.

FIRST Robotics recently held its Gateway Robotics Challenge at Lindenwood University’s Hyland Arena. The event took place on Sept. 28 as part of the organization’s partnership with the university. The “off-season” event is a competition among high school-level teams to compete one last time in this year’s challenge, Destination: Deep Space, before the new competition season launches in January.

Students and their families are invited to campus on Oct. 28 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to attend FAFSA Night. Lindenwood’s Enrollment Management team will provide general information and assistance in completing financial aid documents, will provide general financial aid information, and answer questions. Light refreshments and campus tours will be provided.

Lindenwood University will hold its Future Lion Day event for prospective students from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 19, starting at the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts on the St. Charles campus.

Professor Shelly Daly from the Plaster School of Business and Entrepreneurship received to major recognitions at the recent X-Culture International Collaboration project, a large-scale experiential learning exercise designed to provide students with an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in international virtual collaboration.

Dr. Marilyn Abbott, provost and vice president for academic affairs, has announced she will retire from Lindenwood University in July of 2020, concluding a 22-year career with the university.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, psychology students and faculty supported the Walk to End Alzheimer’s event in St. Charles. The department raised over $800.
